Fiddle Lesson - Red Prairie Dawn

2 ratings

This is a full breakdown of my rendition of the Old Time fiddle tune Red Prairie Dawn by the great Garry Harrison.

The version I teach here is a solid beginner/intermediate lesson but all skill levels will get something. I teach bowings that sound Old Timey and stay close to the source recording on this one.

Red Prairie Dawn is in the key of A. Tuning is AEAE and the tune is square and has 2 parts. The form is AABB.

Included is notation/tab, 10 high quality videos and audio-only versions all the videos if that's your jam. What you get specifically is:

  1. A lesson teaching a baseline version of the tune.
  2. A lesson teaching variations you can apply to my rendition.
  3. 3 play-along videos of me playing the tune at various tempos. Slow (50 bpm), medium (75 bpm) and fast (115 bpm).
  4. 3 backing track videos of my playing guitar at various tempos. Slow (40 bpm), medium (60 bpm) and rippin' (120 bpm).
  5. Notation/tab for both the base tune and variations.
  6. Audio-only versions of all the above videos that you can listen to on your phone or in a slow downer app.

Additionally, a document with tips and important context to help maximize what you get out of this lesson.
